Codale Headquarters :: New Place. More Space.

Codale Company History

Minimize
Codale Electric Supply, Inc. was founded October 14, 1975, by Dale P. Holt. Codale started in a 5,000-square-foot building with just five employees. We soon outgrew the original building and added more space by way of another 5,000-square-foot building across the street—not an ideal setup, but it sufficed for the time. Our main markets were residential and commercial construction, with a large focus on the industrial marketplace.

In 1982 Codale moved into a new 25,000-square-foot facility in Salt Lake City, which enabled us to grow and attract many new customers. On September 9, 1983, Codale Electric was appointed as the authorized Allen-Bradley distributor for Northern Utah. This appointment really put Codale “on the map” as the leader in the industrial marketplace.

Codale opened its second branch location in Provo, Utah, in 1989. By 1993, we had completely outgrown our Salt Lake headquarters facility and moved into a new 85,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility. This facility was intended to be the last headquarters building that the company would need…

Between 1995 and 2008 the company continued to expand, adding nine more branches and several new markets served, including DataComm, Outside Plant (OSP) and Utility. Codale has become the largest electrical distributor—by an impressive lead—in the markets we cover, with sales of over $236,000,000 in 2008.

By 2007, we recognized we would soon outgrow our headquarters facility once again. In the fall of 2007, we broke ground on our new world-class headquarters facility, and we took occupancy in February 2009. At 210,000 square feet, it is the most state-of-the-art facility in the electrical distribution industry, spanning 13 acres and including a separate 15,000-square-foot modification and assembly building for the construction of new substations.

Prior to opening our new headquarters building, we completed a new 25,000-sf facility in Rock Springs, Wyoming in December 2008. Our next project was in Logan, Utah, where we completed another 25,000-sf facility in spring 2011. We were grateful to be welcomed into the commercial communities in these new areas, and to have experienced rapid growth in a relatively short period of time after establishing branches in temporary buildings. It was even more exciting to invest further in these communities by constructing our own facilities and becoming permanent residents.

In November 2011, we moved into another brand new 25,000-sf facility in Price, Utah, and a few weeks later, yet another 25,000-sf building in Elko, Nevada. Our Price and Elko branches were the third and fourth in Codale's history, respectively, Price opening in 1995 and Elko in 1997.

In April 2012, we completed an impressive 32,000-sf remodel and addition project for our new St. George, Utah facility.  We held a series of Grand Opening and Tool Fair events (called our "Here we Grow!" Tour) throughout 2012 to celebrate this exciting period of growth.  Amid these fun events, we were also thrilled to open a branch location in Casper, Wyoming, and finished constructing the new facility in 2013. Our newest branch in Vernal, Utah, opened in 2014.

In another exciting move, our previous owner and president Dale Holt reached out to Sonepar, the world's largest electrical distributor, in 2012 about possibly selling "our little company."  Codale's commitment to join the Sonepar USA group was announced on August 22, 2012, and our new CEO, Jon Mitchell, took over in February 2014. The rest, as they say, is history!

It is with sincere gratitude that we wish to thank our customers, vendors, partners, families and friends for their continued association and support as we move into the next chapter of Codale's extraordinary story.
